PolicyLens AI is built privacy-first. The pages you analyze never leave your device. The only personal data involved is your email and payment status — used solely to run the optional subscription, and kept completely separate from your analysis.
| Permission | Why it's needed | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
activeTab | To read the text of the tab you're on, only when you open the popup. | It does not run in the background or on other tabs. |
scripting | To inject the reader script into the current tab on demand. | It is not always-on; it runs only when you click the icon. |
storage | To save your recent analyses, language/mode, and (if you subscribe) a login token, on your device. | Analysis data is not synced to a server. |
| host access to our backend | To reach our own licensing backend for the trial/subscription. | Limited to that single domain; no other website is accessed, and no page content is sent. |
PolicyLens AI uses chrome.storage.local (on-device storage) to keep your recent
analysis results, the extracted policy text (so a report can be re-shown in another language without
re-reading the page), your chosen language and mode, and — if you subscribe — a login token, your
trial start, and cached subscription status. This data never leaves your computer for analysis
purposes, is capped, and can be erased anytime with the Clear button or by signing
out / uninstalling.
PolicyLens AI reports a Privacy Exposure Score, not a "danger" rating. A high score means the policy allows broad data collection, sharing, or usage — it does not mean the service is unsafe. The report always shows good signs alongside concerns so you can decide for yourself.
The extension is free during a trial; continued use requires a subscription. This part — and only this part — involves some personal data, kept separate from the local analysis:
Important Your page content and analysis are still 100% local and never uploaded. The subscription system never sees what you analyze — only your email and payment status.
You can request deletion of your subscription email/record by contacting the support email on the Chrome Web Store listing.
PolicyLens AI uses a local, rule-based engine that looks for known risky and reassuring phrases, to help you understand a document faster.
This is an AI-style explanation, not legal advice. Always read the original document for anything important, and consult a qualified professional for legal questions.
If we change how data is handled, this Privacy Policy will be updated before the change ships, and any new data handling will be clearly disclosed.
